The Lutheran Women's Missionary League is very active at Ascension. They host regular meetings from August through May every second Saturday of the month at 10:00 AM with many different activities planned throughout the year.
Some of their mission projects include mites (pennies and change lying around that add up to millions!) which are sent to women and children in desperate need of aid to become self-sufficient; sponsoring men going through the seminary to become Lutheran pastors; preparing meals for special events; and some fundraisers. For more information about this very special group of women, the church office at (256) 536-9987.
A huge resource for clothing for infants and children is found in the deep well of the Blessing Basket. Some new and some gently used, the clothing donated by members of the congregation and taken to other groups who distribute clothing where needed. This is a year-round project, so there is clothing for all types of weather. The physical building that this group used to have is no longer part of the mission, but clothing items are still received at Ascension.
